In an article for “Tabletalk” John Piper said; “The inner essence of worship is treasuring Jesus as infinitely valuable above everything. The outer forms of worship are the acts that show how much we treasure God. Therefore, all of life is meant to be worship because God said whether you eat or drink or whatever you do – all of life – do it all to show how valuable the glory of God is to you (I Cor. 10:31).”
Now that affects each and every Christian individually in absolutely every aspect of their life. It is also clear from Scripture that God commands all individual Christians to meet with one another regularly in a local church context as an aspect of their worship as well (see Hebrews 10:24-25). At FBC we call that our “Gathered Worship”. In the Chart below you can get an idea of what “going to worship at church” is supposed to be.
In “Gathered Worship” God’s involvement is essential! He provides the encouragement and edification that we all must have in order to thrive spiritually in this life. God ministers to us in “Gathered Worship” through the preaching/teaching of His Word and the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Members of a local church then encourage and build up one another in the faith by using their God given “spiritual gifts” to minister to one another in loving service. Finally, God’s ministry to us and our ministry to one another leads us to lift up His supreme value in gathered praise and prayer! So the purpose of “Gathered Worship” is the encouragement and building up Christians as we come together not simply for what we can get out of it, but rather also what we can contribute to one another. This is our desire for our times of “Gathered Worship”. We urge members/friends of FBC to come to our “Gathered Worship” times as well as our other ministries tailored to meet special ages and or needs.
