THE ROLE OF MEN IN THE CHURCH
All throughout the Scriptures as God was dealing with his people He has been pictured as looking for men to fulfill the roles He has designed for them.
ESV 1 Samuel 13:14 “…The LORD has sought out a man after his own heart,..”
ESV Jeremiah 5:1 “Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, look and take note! Search her squares to see if you can find a man, one who does justice and seeks truth, that I may pardon her.”
ESV Ezekiel 22:30 “And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.”
These verses, and many similar ones, indicate to us the vital importance of the role of men to the people of God. It is plain that their welfare rises and falls on the quality of the men among them. How dangerous it is when there are not men available who are able to “stand in the gap” as Ezekiel 22:30 points out.
FBC, like every other New Testement church, will be successful according to God’s standards only when we have men in our midst who are loving leaders, faithful teachers and godly examples. Therefore we seek to provide men’s ministries that will help to promote the growth and developement of this kind of spiritually minded men.
THROUGH TEACHING -
ESV 2 Timothy 2:1&2 “You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”
THROUGH ACCOUNTABILITY -
ESV Proverbs 27:17 “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”
OUR MEN’S MINISTRIES
MEN’S MONTHLY BREAKFAST -
On the first Saturday of each month, September to June, at 8:00am we have a breakfast and devotional time for men. This men’s ministry also supports, by a free will offering taken at each of these breakfasts, a Christian Mission Agency; “Orphan Cry”.
MEN’S WEEKLY BREAKFAST/BIBLE STUDY -
On every Wednesday morning at 9:00am, September through June, a group of men meet to enjoy Christian fellowship. Their time together includes a delicious breakfast of both physical food and spiritual nourishment as they listen to or view and discuss a message from God’s Word taught by a sound contemporary Christian teacher.
MEN’S WEEKNIGHT BIBLE STUDY -
This men’s Bible Study usually meets at 6:30pm on the first and third Tuesday night of the month. Here is a time for men who are desiring to be serious students and wish to really dig deeper into the Scriptures. These men are either currently involved or prayerfully considering serving in a formal leadership position at FBC.
BASICS CONFERENCE AT PARKSIDE CHURCH -
Each year in May a growing number of men travel to Solon, Ohio to attend the Basics Conference hosted by Alistair Begg and Parkside Church. This conference is meant to challenge and encourage men who are in positions of spiritual leadership in the local church. We have found it to be a real “iron sharpening iron” time for the men who travel and attend together.
